Why is the Chartered Accountancy course overrated?

 Let us assume 1000 people decide to do CA.

1. They appear for CPT. Only 40% pass. 400 survive
2. They appear for IPCC. Only 12% pass. 48 survive
3. They appear for Final CA. Only 8% pass. ~4 survive

Out of 1000 people who entered the industry, with dreams in their eyes and aspirations of being CA’s, a mere 0.4% were able to achieve it. Now they have to compete to get jobs!

Between IPCC and Final CA, your schedule looks like this -

Weekdays -

1. 7 to 10 - Attend college in the morning
2. 11 to 8 - Slog in the office
3. By the time you reach home, you realize you got CA stuff to revise, any pending office work to do, you need to talk to your friends (If you still have them), follow your hobbies, etc.

Weekends -

1. 6–7 hour classes. For some people even Saturday is working, totally screwing up their work-life balance. Oh wait, for that a CA student needs to have a life!

Add to this - outstation audits, college fests you have participated in, any other course you are pursuing and if you are in Mumbai, a 3 hour waste every day due to travelling! DAMN!

Any person who goes through this needs to be acknowledged in the least! A CA is not at all over-rated, just like an IITian, an IAS officer or a doctor is not!!

yes chartered accountant is the most overrated course in India, you see all of above comments, all say its best course,a CA has his own charm, ‘ PEOPLE NEEDS CA AUTOGRAPH’ and not sign LOL.average CA salary is very high, a CA earns a good lively hood,

i would let my anger and frustration out via this post, and would burst some bubbles today.

lets look at some aspects

1. Ca is tough; very tough, actually its not its just mindset of people, and other is passing percentage, looking at the course its actually not that tough.
2. people may say its practical oriented, believe me out of 8 subject in CA final only 4 you can relate to practical life, and out of that 2 also are far far away related to actual
   its a well known fact that subject ISCA is off no use to CA , however every now and then you may hear that ISCA may be scraped, but rather deleting it, new amendments are introduced, i mean there are course like CISA or DISA, which a CA could peruse afterwards if he have interest
   most of the student fail in second group is because of this subject only
   (one of my friend’s aunt is copy checker, she barely passes 10 students out of 400–450 copies allotted to her, cruel lady she would die i hell)
3. CA gets good package
   package is far away, find a job first,
   If you have taken more then 3 attempts to clear CA final, institute would not let you sit for campus interview cause they have to show that we have good placement percentage
   average CA fresher package is 6l p.a. (on and off campus) which is also avg of any other b school or above average engineering collage.
   
   
   there are many who struggle to get a good job, many are working for as low as 3l p.a. in cities like mumbai
4. CA crushes dream,
   when you do MBA or engineering, you have best part of your life to think for yourself (age 18–24,cause this is the age person gets mature enough and this of themselves) what do you want to do in life, whats your life aim, you get enough time to peruse it.
   In ca you dont have time for this stuffs, even if you gets interest in something, you wouldn’t have time to pursue it.
   cause come on a ca have to do article-ship, and most of the time the boss only like to think of himself and not for students. (my boss threatened me that you cant do other courses with ca, i dare, he would make my life hell, and he dint let me fill my CS form. )
   
   the other could be you are not a CA even after multiple attempts.
5. CA articleship
   bosses are mean
   it happened with me
   i’am from indore (m.p.) I did my article-ship from mumbai joined in april, no leave (not even a single holiday) for 7 months, my first leave was when i applied for diwali holidays, first he argued that i h=should have informed atleast a week ago.
   i got a call next day of diwali, he asked why aren’t you in office today (i got dumbstruck)
   i said i’am in home town, i would be able to join from tomorrow as mentioned in the leave application.
   (i mean how dumb he could be, should i travell on day of diwali just to reach office next day)
   thats when i became to loose interest in that firm, eventually i was the first article to get transferred from that firm in 20 years of his practice
   
   REASONS,
   1) no matter how far is you client you have to reach office by 11:00, if its 11:01, you would be mark absent for quarter day, no matter if we stayed till 8 P.m. also given normal time was 6 p.m {i was in factory audit, have to visit boisar from andheri 1.5 hrs journey one side train itself reaches 11.15, he said you better cath the earlier train which reaches at 10 am
   out of my 8 months of articleship eventually i was booked for a month of holiday
   2) there was this highly sorted student, who was on audit with me, in same way he was booked for a lot of holiday, he was a golden student, eventually just a month before exam, he got letter from institute that he is disqualified from giving exam on account of excess leave taken, he was broken from inside, first time i saw a boy with that much guts cried like hell,
   on discussing with the CA, he said, its rule of firm , i cant help.
   the guy is CA now, but just 6 months delayed
   
   iam not saying all boss are bad or all are good, but i could assure you, most of them are.
   
   i could go on and on about CA, but you could better judge yourself
   given low pass percentage, the tantrums of boss, the failure, etc, is the degree really worth that much??
   
   there is no CA in the world who are inventors of new thing, they just live off by calculating other people income, mostly living by saving their taxes in shrewd way
