 What is the dress code for the CA articles in the Big 4?

Big4s will not give you any waiver for you being an article in terms of their dress code policy.

It is strictly formals, i.e. A formal shirt (preferably light coloured) and a formal trouser (a darker shade) along with a formal tie (yes formal, because your thin party ties and shiny cartoon ones will not work). Some firms have a policy of keeping the tie optional in the summers in India (lucky you).

For females, it is the same as above without the tie, alternatively one may go for a punjabi suit /kurti with a dupatta. Skirts are allowed, provided the length is business appropriate, i.e. Knee length. Sleeveless are generally not allowed with a little exception off late.

Most Big4s have the trend of a business casual friday attire. That would permit denims with casual shirts or firm branded tshirts.

It is advisable however to be dressed your best for atleast the initial 2 weeks and observe the trend and blend in. Overdressing is not as big a concern as underdressing is.

All big4s conduct an induction session during which you shall be informed regarding the dress code and grooming expectations of the firm.

.Yes, apparently, they do, till a certain period of time, after which experience matters. I can divide the answer to this question in 3 time frames- At the time of applying for Articleship- This case involves the number of attempts taken to pass the Intermediate examinations. The pass percentage of these exams is approximately 20 % (give or take). So, we can assume, a number of students don’t clear in first attempt. The Big Fours, they sort the CVs of the candidates based on this criteria. Therefore, most of the rank holders get their articleship there. Moving on to Top 20 firms, they also want to hire the best, so they look for candidates who have cleared the exams in the first attempt. On the extremes, they may go for 3 attempts.
